Notes on blogging 100 days in a row

Yesterday was my 100th consecutive day of blogging. That's a personal record (by a lot). Blogging every day is, for me, easier than blogging three times a week or other less-specific frequencies:

  1. It eliminates the "is today a blogging day?" question;
  2. It encourages me to choose focused, manageable subjects for posts (though some are naturally more sprawling);
  3. Writing begets writing;
  4. Daily is, in general, a good frequency for a big set of habits.

And here are some notes I find myself repeating in correspondence:

  1. Don't worry about how many people are reading (unless you have some specific reason to be reader-count-maximizing, which people asking me generally do not);
  2. When in doubt, choose a smaller topic. (I like Hemingway, but focus more on "say one true thing" than "cut out adjectives.")
  3. Writing is great! As with podcasting, give it a try and don't constrain yourself with an over-narrow theme.

One motivation I've had is to chronicle and navigate the generative AI era. If success in that goal is measured by how far ago 100 days seems to be as I review those posts, I've succeeded.

Many thanks to everyone out there who's reading, writing, or working in any of the communities I'm writing about.
